Rosa Dalphine Potts
Rosa Dalphine Neel Potts passed away December 9, 2019 at Tahlequah, Oklahoma after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born to Alfred and Pansy Terry Neel on April 24, 1935 at Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Dalphine attended Lowrey Grade School and Tahlequah High School.
She was married to Robert Jerry Potts, Sr. They were the parents of two sons: Robert Jerry Potts, Jr. and Timothy Alex Potts. Dalphine and Robert moved to Tulsa shortly after their marriage, then on to many adventures in California, North Carolina where Robert was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army, other locales and finally settling back in Cherokee County. At one time, they ran the cafe at Hanging Rock Camp on the Illinois River where Dalphine was the chief cook. Her cheese burgers and onion rings were delicious! Dalphine also was employed at the Tahlequah City Airport where she loved to talk to the incoming pilots. She was known to enjoy many a jaunt over Cherokee County in small private planes. And even later, trips to destinations like Hawaii and Cancun.
Dalphine and Robert eventually divorced, but remained friends. She stayed in Tahlequah and worked at the Tahlequah Wal Mart where she retired. Dalphine always faithfully attended church where ever she lived, including the Moodys Church of Christ, Central Church of Christ in Tahlequah, and finally at the Keys Church of Christ where she attended until her health kept her at home.
One of her hobbies was cake decorating, she took professional cake decorating classes and loved to bake birthday cakes for her sons and her many grandchildren. Words that others have used to describe Rosa Dalphine are: beautiful, sweet, kind, and also highly independent. But, when asked how she wanted to be remembered she said that she would like for others to remember her as a loving mother. Her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest treasures.
Dalphine was preceded in death by her parents, her son Tim, her grandson George, her two granddaughters Cindy and Bobbi Joe, her infant brother Danny Alfred Neel, and two sisters: Loretta Christine Woods and Vina Imogene Branch.
She is survived by one sister: Sandra Gail Neel Hutchins and husband Gilbert of the Lowrey Community north of Tahlequah, her Uncle Harold Terry of Tahlequah, her former husband Robert Jerry Potts, Sr. of Florida, and her daughter-in-law Jennie Potts of Park Hill. She is also survived by grandchildren: Josh, Jeremy, Joey, Thomas, Jake, Dale, Amanda, and Brandalyn Rose, several great-grand children and at least one great great-grandchild. Also, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, and her best friend Peggy McClellan.
Due to Dalphine's request there will be no services. She requested that her ashes be released by her only surviving sister, Sandra, at a special location. However, a tombstone will be erected at the Moody's Cemetery in the family plot as a memorial to this brave woman's life. Memorial tributes may be made to St. Jude Childrens' Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Pl. Memphis, TN 38105 in memory of both Rosa Dalphine and her granddaughter Cindy Potts who passed away as a young girl from leukemia.
