Glenda Ruth Hinton Obituary

Tahlequah, Oklahoma - Glenda Ruth Smith Hinton was born April 16, 1946, in Nowata, Oklahoma, to Cecil and Leota (Gill) Smith. She passed away peacefully at home following a hospitalization on January 23, 2026.

She is survived by her husband, Bill ("Billie John") Hinton, son, David Douthit, and wife, Valerie of Miami, Oklahoma, daughter Diane Douthit and John Vance of Bixby, Oklahoma, Step-sons Billy Hinton and wife Kathy of Dallas, John and Jeanie Hinton of Montgomery grandchildren, Parker (McDonald)), Cooper and Allison White, Shane Douthit, Addison Douthit, Blake and Sydney Hinton, Kyndal Hinton,; great grandchildren Oliver White, and Stella White; aunt Cherry (Gill) McSpadden of Frisco, TX; sister-in-law Paula (Blank) Smith of Claremore; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jerry Smith, and her granddaughter Elizabeth Gatzman Douthit.

Glenda graduated from Tahlequah High School, then received her B.A. in Education and Reading Specialist M.A. from NSU. She taught at several grade levels in the Broken Arrow, Muskogee, and Lowery Public Schools, and also Sequoyah (Tahlequah) Indian High School. She was a member of the Cherokee Nation.

Glenda's love and gift for interior design and other artistic accomplishments grace the homes of many relatives and friends. First and foremost, however, was her love for Jesus Christ, closely followed by that for her family.

A Celebration of Glenda's life will be held on Friday, January 30th, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the First Christian Church of Tahlequah with Pastor Darell Christopher officiating. She will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Talala, OK, following services.

Pallbearers for Glenda will be David Douthit, Shane Douthit, Addy Douthit, Parker McDonald, Cooper White, and Josh Herron. Honorary pallbearers include John Vance, Dr. Chris Deloche, Butch Morris, Linda Morris, Gavin Crocker, Jeff Kimball, and Shawn Renfro.

Her Family will receive guests at Reed-Culver Funeral Home on Thursday, January 29th, 2026, beginning at 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Online condolences may be left at www.reedculver.com
