Tahlequah - Alice Ann (Lamons) Hamby was born December 10, 1940 and went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 6th, 2025. She passed peacefully with her family by her side.
The daughter of John Newton (Buster) Lamons and Emma Sevola (Jordan) Lamons, Alice Ann was the seventh child of seven children. She attended Tahlequah Public Schools and business classes at NSU. Alice Ann was a secretary for a number of years at Ozark Nursery and Keys School, then retired from Cherokee Nation Housing Authority after 34 years.
Alice Ann's family was her life and she was never short on sacrificing anything for them. Her heart was so big that many were considered part of her extended family, donning her the endearing nickname of "Mama Alice". If you were lucky enough to be blessed as someone that Alice loved, in her eyes, you could do no wrong and she would never hesitate to stand up for you to anyone that questioned that. The only thing that could outshine her model-like beauty, was her wit. She was a trivia wiz and could finish any crossword puzzle she started. The only thing that trumped her wit, was her unwavering kindness. She was happiest when her family gathered together for holiday meals and big family breakfasts. She never missed rooting for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren at their many ball games or activities, if she could help it. She was everyone's biggest fan. Mama Alice was an angel that God let us borrow for a while and anyone who knew her is lucky to have been shaped by her influence and love.
Alice Ann was preceded in death by her mother and father, the father of her children, Estel Hamby, her sister Ila Mae Lamons, her brother and sister-in-law Garl Gene & Ruth Lamons, her brother and sister-in-law Leroy & Verlene Lamons and nephew Johnny Lamons, her sister and brother-in-law Virginia & Otis Hoffman and niece Mary (Hoffman) Roach, her brother and sister-in-law Tommy & Geraldine Lamons, and brother Billie Lamons. Alice Ann is survived by her three children, Sherry Qualls (Leroy) of Tahlequah, OK, Chris Hamby (Kathy) of Saint Louis, MO, and Bret Hamby (Cheryl) of Tahlequah, OK; Six grandchildren, Amber Hamby, Ashley (Hamby) Conger, Zachary Hamby (Brittney), David Qualls (Paiten), Jeremy Hamby (Heidi), and Matthew Qualls (Stevie); Eleven great grandchildren, Natalie & Harper Qualls, Olivia, Evelyn, & Emmitt Hamby, Kline & Milo Conger, Elias & Sage Hamby, Katherine & Leighton Qualls, sister-in-law Dyanne Lamons, close friends Pudge and Jody Ketcher, and many other relatives, friends, and loved ones who will miss her dearly.
