TAHLEQUAH – Funeral Services for Victor Vance will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, in the Green Country Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Dale Wilson with Brad Perry assisting. Interment will follow in the Cedar Tree Cemetery at Briggs. Online condolences may be left at tahlequahfuneral.com. Victor joined the National Guard while attending Chilocco Indian School. Following graduation in 1959, he enrolled at Northeastern State College. He then entered the U.S. Air Force, serving four years before earning an honorable discharge. He was assigned to the 325 Fighter Wing Air Defense Command. Returning to Tahlequah, his education continued at Northeastern State University where he earned a Masters Degree in Education, graduating in 1976. He then began working at Cherokee Nation as an adult education teacher. He and Ruby (Manus) were married Jan. 26, 1980, in Tahlequah where they made their home. Following 29 years of service to Cherokee Nation, Victor retired in 2005. He is survived by his wife, Ruby of the home; children, Brian Vance and wife Debbie of Gideon, Roger Vance also of Gideon, Darlene Wilder and husband Ray, Carl Stacey and wife Melanie, and Shelby Stacey and wife Kim, all of Tahlequah; brothers, Earnest Vance and Larry Vance, both of Tahlequah; sisters, Mary Ann Feathers, Barbara Sanders, both of Tahlequah; a half sister, Pauline Hyatt of Illinois; as well as many other relatives, friends, and loved ones. He has been preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Manus; brothers, John Lee, Junior, Buddy, Jerome Hank, and Robert Vance; sister, Alice Bernice; half brother, Westley Vance; and a half bother whose whereabouts are unknown, Floyd Vance.
