TAHLEQUAH – Trecia Ann York, 77 years young, peacefully passed into the presence of God and heaven, of natural causes on the evening of July 25, 2015. Trecia was surrounded and comforted by loving family members. Trecia, firstborn of Charles and Dorothy George, was born April 21, 1938, in the township of Locust Grove, Ark. Trecia met a handsome young Air Force sergeant, Bobby Gene York, who was on leave in Phoenix, Ariz. He and a friend happened into in an ice cream parlor and was immediately smitten with a cute little country girl. It’s been said that it was “love at first sight.” After an amazing courtship, Bob charmed his way into Trecia’s heart. They were married on Oct. 27, 1955. Bob was stationed in New Mexico when first child, Bobbie Ann, was born. As the years quickly passed, three more little ones came along. Chuck, Tammy and Ritchie completed the York family. When the kids were young, Bob’s work took them to California, Arizona, Oklahoma and the Alaska pipeline. Trecia was an accomplished hair stylist and worked her trade in Keys for many years, gaining an abundance of lifelong friends. In 1987, Trecia traveled with Bob to Dutch Harbor, Alaska. It was to be their last great adventure. Styling hair was of great demand in Dutch Harbor. Trecia worked at the Fisherman’s Locker. She talked of her days while working there as being hard but totally rewarding. Trecia always had her door open to family and friends that needed a place to stay. She was a gracious host and an even better cook. Trecia kept the important things at the top in her life. Family and her love of God were always first and foremost. Trecia was a devoted wife and mother, and had a busy and fulfilling life raising her children, and enjoying her cherished grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Trecia was a lifelong Christian, reading the Bible daily, and lived her life by the Lord’s teachings. Trecia and Bob made many lifelong friends. Wanda and Harold Lay and their children were as close as her own family. Wanda and Trecia met in the hospital while both there to deliver babies. The family friendship was strong throughout the rest of their lives. Trecia was preceded in death by her immediate family: husband, Bobby Gene York; her beloved daughter, Bobbie Ann Stratton; and parents Charles and Dorothy George.
