Ruby Jean Tom-Lee was born on July 22nd, 1926, in Keota, OK, the daughter of Levi Columbus and Mary Elizabeth (Richmond) Tom. She grew up with one brother Simeon and one sister, Sylvia. She began school in Lawrence, KS at boarding school then completed her schooling at Haskell Institute. On December 4th, 1946, she married her best friend, Earl Foxy Floyd Lee. Together they raised a family of five children, Mary, Earlean, Shelia, David Wayne and David Allen. She was a determined and formidable wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Besides being a full time homemaker, she worked at Walmart as an associate, retiring in 1989.She was an accomplished seamstress, making clothes for her children and outfits for their Barbie Dolls as well. Quilting was another way Ruby relaxed in her spare time. If you went to Rubys house, you would not be turned loose until you had one of her home cooked meals. Her chicken and dumplings, brown beans, biscuits and gravy, and holiday dinners were the best around. Ruby enjoyed getting outside to dig in her flower and vegetable gardens, even in the heat of the day. She was strong willed and knew what she wanted done. A Christian by faith, Ruby attended Ash Street Baptist Church, remaining active in Bible school until her health would no longer permit her to help. Family was everything to Ruby, and each and every child was precious to her. The Lord called this wonderful mother and grandmother home from her labors on Thursday, August 17th, 2017 in Ft. Gibson, OK with her family by her side. Ruby was 91 years old. She will be greatly missed for all the love and encouragement she gave so freely.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband Earl Lee on June 10th, 2002, her son, David Wayne Lee in 2014, one grandson, Brent Black, one brother, Simeon David Tom and one sister, Sylvia Lou Tom-Summer, and her grandparents, Samuel and Silvia Richmond and her great grandparents, Chris and Elizabeth Richmond.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Mary Catherine Johnson Ross and husband Ed of Ft. Gibson, OK, Earlean Duncan and husband Stan of Henderson, TX, Shelia Strickland and husband Keith of Tampa, FL, and David Allen Lee of Ft. Gibson, OK.
