Rose Marie (Torchia) Cambiano was born May 7, 1927 in Camp 42 a small mining community now called Mackey, KS and passed away January 11, 2017 at 89 years of age in Tahlequah, OK.
In 1939, the family left camp 42 and moved to Kansas City, MO where she graduated from St. Alloysius Academy. She worked as a model until she married the love of her life, Ross on June 22, 1946. She had two children, Ron and Rhonda, and then they moved to California where they were blessed with their third child, Renée. She was very happy as a mom and homemaker until her children were grown. She got her driver's license at age 42, thereafter she continued her education, which began in a one-room schoolhouse, to pursue her college career at age 48. She graduated with an Associate of Arts from Chaffey Jr. College, Alta Loma, CA before moving to Tahlequah Ok in 1975. She continued her education at Northeastern State University where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Special Education and her Master's Degree in Speech and Language Pathology and graduated with academic honors in both degrees. She entered the workforce and enjoyed many years working with children as a Speech Therapist for the Cherokee County CO-OP making sure that children cleaned out their speech house. Known as "Miss Rose" she influenced the lives of many children. In 2009, she received the Northeastern State University prestigious Centurion award. In 2013, the American Association of University Women, Tahlequah Branch, honored Rose as a Woman of Distinction. Over the years, her warm and loving home welcomed many diverse people at her dinner table for Sunday pasta. She carried on family Italian traditions with many cookies and favorite dishes. She was involved in the Garden Club and the Red Hats. She was very artistic and creative and loved to scrapbook and crochet, but most importantly loved taking care of her family and friends.
Rose is preceded in death by her parents, Sue and Mike Torchia; her husband Ross Cambiano, her brother-in-laws Anthony Ingolia and Joe Cambiano; her sister-in-law Muriel Torchia and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Rose is survived by her sister, Lee Ingolia of Pomona, CA; brother Tom Torchia of Easton, MA and sister-in-law June Cambiano of Morrilton, AR. Her children Ron and wife Judy Cambiano of Cookson, Rhonda Cambiano of Tahlequah and Renée Cambiano of Tahlequah. Her grandchildren, Cassi and husband Jeff Manion of Edmond, Chase Cambiano of Tahlequah, and Michael Cambiano of Tahlequah; and One Great Grandchild, Cade Manion; many nieces and nephews and a host of "adopted" children and friends. Many will miss her warm and loving smile and accepting spirit.
Pallbearers include Ron Cambiano, Chase Cambiano, Mike Cambiano, Jeff Manion, Cade Manion and Greg Hall. Honorary Pallbearers include Tom Torchia, Khris Flores, Michael Torchia and Randy Ingolia.
A heartfelt Thank You goes out to the medical staff of Northeastern Health Systems, Drs. Green, Russell and Mathis, Sean Scearce, Scott Taggert, Donna Schneider and her nursing staff Tia, Debbie, Teresa and Ka-Ka-Ka Katy; Errille Stout, and the ladies at Carter Home Health; Ami, Cletha, Peggy, and Tonia. A special thank you to Amy and Sarah for their kindness and tender care at her home. We would also like to acknowledge the team on second floor of Northeastern Health Systems that helped her gracefully and respectfully live out her final days with dignity.
A rosary will be said in Rose's name at Green Country Funeral Home at 7:00pm, Monday January 16th and a Mass celebration at St. Brigids Catholic Church January 17th at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Tahlequah City Cemetery.
