Rita Kay Burton age 72, passed from this life and into the arms of her God on January 21, 2017, in Tahlequah, OK, after an extended illness. She was born on December 16, 1944 to Herman and Loretta Bellenger in Oklahoma City. Rita graduated from John Marshal High School in Oklahoma City in 1963 and then attended Oklahoma University. She met her husband of 53 years Larry L. Burton in 1963 while she was in high school and they married in 1964 while both were attending OU.
Rita was a property and casualty insurance underwriter for 30 years and upon moving to Tahlequah from Edmond, in 1988 worked for county government and retired as a real estate property manager/realtor/admin assistant. Rita is survived by her husband Larry of the home on Lake Tenkiller; her son Brett Burton and his wife Jennifer of Broken Arrow; her daughter Brook Turner and her husband John of Broken Arrow; four grandsons, Mackenzie Moles, Mackenzie Burton, Hayden Burton, Jacob Moles; two step-granddaughters, Hanna and Dylinn Turner; sister-in-law Dawn Rice; and two nieces, Kim and Kris Rice.
She loved her family and enjoyed boating on the lake and being in the sun having fun with friends. She loved spending time with her children and grandkids as often as she could; she also loved to play cards and watch football in the winter. A beautiful ending to a beautiful life of a loving wife, a loving mother and grandmother. She embodied her goodness in the souls of her children. She never met a stranger and was always true to her word. She just "Kept on Keeping On" until that last breath. She never gave up and her tenacity to control her illness while trying to maintain a quality of life for herself and her family never wavered. She got up every morning and "Put on Her Big Girl Pants" and attacked it with a vengeance.
Those of you who know our children now understand where they received their values and the desire to help people. This was the essence of Rita Kay Burton. She will live on in our memory forever and will be dearly missed.
Final arrangements have been placed in the care of Green Country Funeral Home.
