Richard (Rick)'s Story
Richard (Rick) Lee Schneider Jr.
Born August 24, 1976, Rick passed away May 7, 2017 from complications due to injuries suffered during his final deployment to Iraq.
Rick was a 1995 graduate of Tahlequah High School where he excelled in tennis and was named the male athlete of the year his senior year. He attended Cowley County College on a tennis scholarship. He received a bachelors degree in psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He was also pursuing his masters degree in order to further his passion of helping other wounded warriors.
Rick entered the Army in 1996 as a combat medic. He went on to be a highly decorated combat officer, and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in May of 2004 as a medical service officer. Rick reached the rank of Captain before going to Iraq. For his service, Rick was awarded Master Parachutist, the Bronze Star, and a Meritorious Service Medal for his service in Iraq as part of a joint US-Iraqi combat team.
Rick is survived by a son Ayden Schneider, parents Richard and Bonnie Schneider of Gaylord, MI; brother Phillip Schneider (wife Amy and sons Brock and Eli) of Tahlequah, OK; sister Ali of Gaylord, Mi; Grandfather Myron (WWII veteran) of Roscommon, MI; Grandmother Barbara of Las Vegas, NV; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Ricks celebration of life service will take place on May 25th at 6:00 p.m. at Exciting Southeast Baptist Church located at 13289 HWY 82, in his hometown of Tahlequah, OK. Food will be provided. All family, friends, and fellow military are invited to attend.
