RB (Brass) Breshears was born on December 11, 1929, to John and Jennie Breshears in Muskogee County, Oklahoma.
He departed this life on July 23, 2017, at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 12 days.
RB was preceded in death by his ever loving wife, Mae Lea, his parents, two brothers, John
Francis Carter and Kerney Carter; and one sister Jennie Martha Harrison.
He is survived by his son, Ross Francis Breshears and his wife Mallery of Edmond, OK.,
and granddaughters, Rachael and Roxanne Breshears; and his daughter, Jeri Leanna Elliott of Tahlequah, and grandsons, Nick, Trent and Cole Elliott He is also survived his brother Roy of Shawnee, OK, and sister Alice Ann and her husband of Muskogee, OK and several nieces and nephews.
RB lived in Muskogee and Cherokee counties until August of 1947, when at the age of 17 years he joined the United States Marine Corps as a Private. He served 22 years and retired from the Corps on December 31, 1969 as a Captain. His tours of duty took him to different places in the Pacific Theater most notably Korea from August 1950 to June 1951. He was one of the Chosen Few that saw action at the Chosin Reservoir during November and December 1950. RB also served in Vietnam from June 1965 until December 1966.
RB married the former Mae Lea Smith on July 21, 1951 and she was with him during his tours in the states.
RB was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and more importantly a member of the Park Hill Baptist Church of Tahlequah and his most fervent prayer was that his children and grandchildren find Christ and take advantage of the Gospel of salvation as found in 1st Corinthians, Chapter 15, Verses 1 through 4 and Romans Chapter 10 verse 9.
Services are entrusted to Green Country Funeral Home of Tahlequah. Interment will follow at a later date in the National Cemetery at Ft. Gibson where he will be laid to rest next to his wife.
