J.L. Denny was born on November 19th, 1933, in Qualls, OK, the son of Odie Delmer and Edna Rose (Hall) Denny. He was raised up with his one brother, Harley and one sister, Betty Jo. He attended school at Tahlequah and was enrolled at Bagley High School. On May 20th, 1954, he married the love of his life, Peggy Sue Davis in Tahlequah, OK. Together they shared 63 years of happiness and raised two sons, Michael and Gary. The United States Army called him into active duty in 1955. He served overseas in Germany in the 5th Armored Division keeping the tanks on the ground running, until his honorable discharge in 1957. He returned home to his wife and son and began his career as a brick mason. He was one of the most talented masons serving in the northwest Arkansas and Oklahoma areas. He also owned and operated furniture stores, Denny Furniture and Nubin Ridge Furniture here in Tahlequah. J.L. was a busy man, constantly on the go. When he wasnt working, he loved the quarter horse races and shooting pool. When the rest of his family called, he would keep them company on a coon hunt. When the weather was cold, he liked to settle in with a Louis LAmour western and read or sit back and listen to George Jones sing country music. J.L. was a plain spoken country gentleman, respectful and kind. He was the happiest man on earth just being with his sons and grandsons. He adored them and the feelings were mutual, in spite of his occasional teasing. J.L. attended the Union Community Church and four years ago, was baptized along with his son. He battled cancer on his own terms and never allowed it to define his activities. He had accompanied his wife to Prairie Grove for their 60th anniversary staying at the same cabin they had stayed at as newly weds. He was still planning on more work projects when the Lord called this hard working servant to his rest on Saturday, May 13th, 2017 at his home with his family by his side. J.L. was 83 years, 5 months and 24 days old. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
J.L. is preceded in death by his grandparents, Tom and Jane Denny, his mother and father, his grandson Christopher Denny and his great grandson, Odin Denny.
