LEACH – Franklin D. Strong was born on July 11, 1939, in Cherokee County, Okla., to Henry C. and Phyllis I. (Jackson) Strong. He departed this life on Oct. 13, 2015, at the Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Ark., at the age of 76 years, 3 months, and 4 days. Frank was raised in Rocky Ford and graduated from the Oaks High School in 1957. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964 and was based in Germany. He married Mary Helen Hix in Leach on Dec. 27, 1974. Frank and Mary were married for 40 years. They resided at Rocky Ford for all 40 years. Frank worked as a cement finisher with his father and brother, and later as a security guard and maintenance worker with Leach Public Schools. Frank was also a lifelong cattle rancher. He retired from Leach Public Schools in 2002. Frank enjoyed antique cars and trucks, especially Studebakers. Frank also enjoyed garden tomatoes, peanuts in his Pepsi, and sitting on his front porch; but above all, he loved his family. Frank is survived by his loving wife, Mary Helen of the home; two sons, Scott Strong and fiancé Ahnnie Webb of Coweta, and Franklin Strong Jr. of Tahlequah; two grandsons, Trey Thompson and Tommy Strong; one sister, Nancy Thompson of Rose; and four brothers, Jack Strong and wife Lana of Rocky Ford, Tony Strong and wife Aida of Locust Grove, Charlie Strong and wife Deann of Broken Arrow, and Guy Strong of Tulsa. Frank was also proud to be Papa to Joshua Hix. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; and his niece, Kim Philpot. Funeral services were held 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 16, at the First Baptist Church in Leach. Brother Maxie Thompson officiated. Interment followed at the Elm Cemetery in Leach.
