Frankie's Story

Frankie Nell Herrin, 79, of Park Hill, Oklahoma, departed from this life on January 29, 2017, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of the late Flo and Edith (Myers) Parris and was born June 30, 1937, in Park Hill, Oklahoma where she lived her entire youth. She was preceded in death by two infant sisters. She was the great-great-great-granddaughter of the famous Cherokee Chief John Ross.
Frankie attended Owen School, District 7 from 1st through 8th grade. This was the only grade school she attended before she entered Central High School in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She graduated in the class of 1954. She then pursued her teaching degree at Northeastern State College and earned a B.S. in Education.
Frankie married her high school sweetheart, Al Herrin on July 25, 1958. This union was blessed with four children. Frankie and Al loved to travel and lived from Alaska to Florida and many places in between where they both taught and Al pursued his higher education.
She had the privilege of teaching in many schools across the United States including: Anderson, MO, Los Alamos, NM, Neosho, MO, Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Tenkiller School. She retired from Tenkiller School and always said that she went to substitute for one day and ended up staying twenty years.
Frankie was an active member of numerous professional organizations including: National Education Organization, Oklahoma Education Organization, Cherokee County Rural Teachers Association - where she served as President for many years, American Association of University Women, and Cherokee County Democratic Association - where she served as Precinct Representative. As a result of her generous spirit and cheerful personality, she was loved by many.
Her Christian life was as beautiful as the flowers that she loved so well, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She deeply loved her church, Park Hill Presbyterian Church, where she was member from childhood to present. Ordained as an Elder in 1980; she served as Treasurer since 1987. Frankie was Church pianist for over 30 years.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children; Mark Herrin and wife Deanna of Edmond, Gerri Lawson and husband Terry of Tulsa, Jane Phillips and husband Todd of Tahlequah, and Jay Herrin and wife Missy of Tahlequah; beloved grandchildren include, Emily, Brett, Carly, Jennifer, Kacy, Kelsy, Jake, Luke, Baylee, and Reece; great grandchildren, Sam, Henry, Gray and Mac; and devoted sister, Billie Parris of Tahlequah.
Funeral services for Frankie Nell Herrin, 79, of Park Hill, Oklahoma will be held at the Sequoyah High School gymnasium, (17091 S. Muskogee, Tahlequah) on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 10:00 am. Officiating will be Dana Bailey, C.L.P. Pallbearers are her grandsons, Jake Phillips, Brett Herrin, Luke Phillips, Reece Herrin, Ethan Henley, David Howard, Marcus Wooley, and Alex Simpson. Honorary pallbearers are Todd Phillips, Terry Lawson, Tom Carlile, J.D. Kennicutt, Johnny Van Paden and Billie John Herrin. Interment will follow in the Ross Cemetery at Park Hill under the care of Green Country Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at tahlequahfuneral.com.
