Dr. Robert's Story

TAHLEQUAH – Funeral services for Dr. Robert Paul Webb II will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at the Hart Funeral Chapel with Tom Tucker officiating. Dr. Robert Paul Webb II, the son of Robert Paul and Aline Rae (Drake) Webb, was born Nov. 7, 1928, in Oklahoma City, and departed this life on Oct. 4, 2015, in Tahlequah, at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 27 days. Robert graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1946 and married Dolores Jean Smith-Webb on Aug. 27, 1949, in Oklahoma City. They moved to Anderson, Ind., to pursue their educations. Robert received a Bachelor of Science degree at Anderson College in 1954, and his master’s degree at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., in 1955. Robert and Dolores moved to Nowata where he taught for the next 11 years before moving to Tahlequah in 1966 and taking a position at Northeastern State University, where he taught and counseled for 30 years. During his tenure there he received his Doctorate of Education from the University of Tulsa in 1976. Robert enjoyed life and accomplished many things. He was a Featherweight Golden Gloves Boxer and he had climbed Pike’s Peak twice. He hunted in his early years, played tennis, cards and was an avid reader. He loved teaching and memorized his students’ names from seating charts, and would remember their names for many years. In the summers, he would take off with his father-in-law to work construction jobs. He was a counselor for many years and, after retirement, he had a home office and continued to practice. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. One of his favorite things to do was watch OU Sooner Football. Dr. Webb touched many lives over the years and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dolores Jean Smith-Webb; his brother, Jim Webb; and his great-granddaughter, Mabry Kate Webb. He is survived by a loving family which includes his children, Mary Aline Bibb and husband, James, of Flower Mound, Texas, Dr. Robert Paul Webb III and wife, Terri, of Tahlequah, and Dr. Brent Alan Webb of Powell, Tenn.; his brother, Tom R. Webb and wife, Ruth, of Oklahoma City; his sister, Janet Pickard of Tulsa; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.
