Dr. Daniel's Story

Dr. Daniel P. Murphy, M.D., born Feb. 11, 1963, entered Heaven in peace, May 13, 2017. Born in Oklahoma City, Daniel was the third son of William S. Murphy Jr. and Jacqueline Gaumer Murphy. He went to heaven of natural causes as God called him home. Dan was predeceased by his father, William S. Murphy Jr., his grandparents, William and Lillian Murphy, and Roy and Ethyl Gaumer. He is survived by his mother, Jacqueline Murphy of OKC; his children, Rylee, Gillian and Patrick Murphy of Muskogee; his siblings, William S. Murphy IV (Nila), Robert Murphy (Kaylynn), and Laura Beth Murphy; and his nieces and nephews, Courtney Kay Murphy, Conner Murphy, Murphy Merrell, McKenna Murphy, Lyndle Smith, Alex Smith (Lonnie) and Christi Smith Crigler (Phillip).
Dan was born and raised in Oklahoma City. He graduated from Putnam City High School in 1981, serving as Student Council President. Dan was a musician, playing the tenor saxophone and a member of The Pirate Pride Marching Band and Stage Band. He attended The University of Oklahoma, receiving his BS in 1985 and graduated The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1989 with honors. Dan was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Delta Upsilon Fraternity.
Daniel was a Radiation Oncologist at Northeast Oklahoma Cancer Center, Tahlequah, Oklahoma, never turning anyone away regardless of their ability to pay. Dan set up and managed a special fund for those patients in need of transportation, food or housing to complete their treatments.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, 6-8pm, at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service, Bethany. Services will be Saturday, May 20, 2:00pm at Christs Legacy Church with interment in Carney Cemetery.
