STILWELL – Clara ‘Irene’ Mankiller, 94, was born Sept. 18, 1921, in Titanic, Okla., to Robert Baily Sitton and Pearl Haladay. She was thoughtful, kind and generous to all she knew. Her cheerful outlook on life lifted the spirit of so many people around her. Irene loved spending time outside working in her garden and planting flowers. She also loved baking and canning. She had a passion for sewing, and making beautiful quilts for family. Her quilts were also presented as gifts to many people throughout Oklahoma. She spent her spare time reading. She looked forward to gathering with family for Sunday dinners to spend precious time together and enjoyed playing card games with them. Irene met President Clinton when he presented her daughter, Wilma Mankiller, with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She leaves behind her sons, Louis Donald Mankiller and wife Lavena of Mulberry Hollow, and James Ray Mankiller and wife Lula of Keys; 43 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many other loved ones.
