Betty was born in Tulsa, OK, on November 12, 1929, to Curtis E. and Opal Mae (Fulbright) Talburt. On the evening of Sunday, May 15, 2016, Betty Lou Talburt-Groat passed away peacefully at the age of 86.
As a child, she often took care of her sisters, and their escapades became family legend over the years
In 1945 during a visit with grandparents, Betty and her sisters spotted a sailor from the U.S. Navy returning from World War II. He stopped to say hello to them. This chance encounter brought Kenneth Groat into Betty's life; they married later that year, and their 57-year marriage brought five wonderful children into the world.
Her faith shone as an example for all around her, and she passed its strength to not only her own children and grandchildren but also the children she taught in Sunday school. She enjoyed teaching Bible stories to children in creative and fun ways, including puppets and other homemade crafts. Music runs in the family's blood, and Betty enjoyed songwriting and singing. When younger, she and her cousin wrote and recorded several gospel songs. Even after that part of life had passed, she continued to sing with friends and family when they gathered in her living room for music nights. Making a "joyful noise unto the Lord" always had a place in her life and her home.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Groat; her sister, Helen Claxton; and her parents.

She is survived by her children, Doyle Groat, Johnny Groat, Linda Payton, David Groat, and Danny Groat; her sister, Joyce Yaws; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
