Funeral Services for Anna Marie Kessinger 88, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma are 2:00 pm, Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Green Country Funeral Home. Officiating will be Dr. Newell Poteet. Pallbearers are Jerrod Copeland, Paul Battenfield, Jerry Trammel, Don Allen Eubanks, Jarod Copeland, Aarron Rector, and Junior Cantrell. Honorary Pallbearers are Larry Blevins, Jim Webster, Rob Acorn, Jess Copeland, and Tommy Copeland. Interment will follow in the Tahlequah City Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home.
Anna Marie (Hammer) Kessinger was born on June 27, 1927, to Gensing and Mollie (Galcatcher) Hammer in Teresita (Indian Territory) Oklahoma. She passed away
on June 19, 2016, at her home in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
Anna was raised by her dad, Gensing Hammer and her granny, Annie Smoke. She attended the Sequoyah Orphan Training School through the 11th grade. She later earned her GED.
Following school Anna began her family. On August 27, 1956, she married the love of her life, Bill Kessinger in Jay, Oklahoma. Anna was employed as a cook at Oakdale School. She would later begin working as a nurse's aid and would continue to do so for over 35 years.
Anna was a faithful member of the Old Country Baptist Church where she was a member for 21 years.
Anna loved to attend garage sales, travel, and collect rocks from her travels. Family was very important to Anna and she looked forward to their gatherings and time together.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Karen Battenfield; her great grandson, Dalton; two sisters, Lena Osburn and Lucille Webster; three brothers, Raymond, Leroy and Clint Hammer; and two nephews she raised, Don and Bobby Webster.
She is survived by her husband Bill of the home; five children, Shirley Copeland and husband Jess of Tahlequah, Verna McNeil of Tahlequah, Janice Copeland and husband Tommy of Proctor, Gail Blevins and husband Larry of Tahlequah, and Richard Kessinger and wife Christie of Tahlequah; a son-in-law, Paul Battenfield; brother, Gerald Hammer and wife Jo Ann of Peggs; two nieces and a nephew whom she raised, Glenda Davis and Kay Acorn, and Jimmy Webster and wife Linda, all of Tahlequah; 20 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; and 8 great great grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family members, friends and loved ones.
