Alex Vann Jr. was born on May 4th, 1958 in Tahlequah, OK, the son of Alex Vann and Ella Mae (Blackbird) Vann. He was the youngest of four children and baby brother to Anna, Sherry, and Linda. Among his family he was known as “Chooch”. In 1976 he graduated from Tahlequah High School and then attended NSU. He later became employed with Cherokee Nation with over 25 years of service and with his final position as Health Property Manager. Alex was a family man. He was the proud father to his three children, Zachariah, Callie, and Seth; and a very proud Papa to his only grandson, Will. Will and his Papa were best friends. He enjoyed watching Historical documentaries and loved Sports of all types. In his younger days, he played a lot of softball with his buddies. As an avid Sports fan, he never missed a chance to watch OU Football, and OU Girls Softball his favorite teams! He was funny, witty, a joker, kind and helpful, often going above and beyond to help those he could, and he was grateful to those who helped him. He was a friend to everyone, and always had that signature smile to brighten your day. Alex became ill, but his Faith and Will to stay with those he loved was amazing. He went to his eternal home on March 3rd, 2016 at his home in Tahlequah, with his loved ones by his side. Alex was 57 years old. He will be greatly missed by all those blessed enough to have known him.
Alex is preceded in death by his Mom and Dad, his grandparents, John Blackbird and Lydia (Kingfisher) Cummings; and George Dew Vann and Dakie (Hutchins) Vann; and his children’s grandparents Willie and Myrtle (Henson) Raper.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Zachariah Daniel Vann, Callie Elizabeth Vann both of Tahlequah, OK, and Seth Andrew Vann of Hulbert, OK, and a very special grandson Will Jackson Vann. He leaves his three sisters, Anna Franklin (husband Don Franklin), Sherry Parks, and Linda Vann all of Tahlequah, OK; a niece Dakie Reeder of Claremore, OK; nephews Jonathan Kilgore of Missouri and Evian Parks; Aunts, Florence Lyman of Catoosa, Sarah Lyman Tanner of Jay, and Lucille Walker of Keys, an uncle Joe Cummings of Keys, as well as several Cousins, and a host of Friends and Co-workers.
