Wilma Lena Rhodes was born Dec. 4, 1944, in Hulbert, Okla., to William "Bill" and Thelma Mary (Rosenthal) McDaniel. She departed this life on Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, at her home at the age of 71 years, 10 months, and 17 days.
Wilma grew up attending grade school in Peggs and then graduated Tahlequah High School in 1962. On Jan. 13, 1968, in Peggs, Okla., Wilma Lena McDaniel and Douglas M. Rhodes were united in marriage. The couple made Peggs their home and had been married for over 48 years.
Wilma had worked at the "Old" Welch Grocery Store in Peggs. She then worked for over 44 years as a dental assistant. She first worked for Dr. Royce for four years and then Dr. Been for over 40 years. She was a member of the Peggs Community Church.
Wilma loved all of her family deeply and treasured the time spent with each of them. She loved to decorate around the house according to the season. She enjoyed shopping and going out to eat. Wilma will always be remembered for the smile she always had on her face. She truly loved to talk and visit with everyone she knew. She was loved dearly and will be missed.
Wilma is survived by: her husband, Doug, of the home; two children, Mike Rhodes and wife Christa of Peggs, Okla., and Shelly Parker and husband Wade of Locust Grove, Okla.; four grandchildren, Gunter Rhodes, Kaden Parker, Magen Willis and husband Johnny, and Brooke Horawa; four great-grandchildren, Josh Willis, Jocelyn Willis, Ruger Horawa, and Remi Horawa; three brothers-in-law, Jack Rhodes and wife Carolyn of Chouteau, Okla., Andy Rhodes of Salina, Okla., and Phil Rhodes and wife Irene of Murphy, Okla.; four sisters-in-law, Ruth Brickey of Salina, Okla., Carolyn Applegate of Locust Grove, Okla., Dorothy DeCamp and husband Gail of Locust Grove, Okla., and Phyllis Adams and husband Leon of Peggs, Okla.; close cousins, Vesta Robbins, Martha Sue Brixey, Kenneth Grimes and wife Mert, Larry Grimes and wife Jerri, and Sis Jackson; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; one brother, Wendall McDaniel; and one grandson, Dustin Rhodes.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, at the Peggs Community Church. Rev. Rex Hendrickson and Rev. Doug Parker will officiate. Interment will follow at the New Home Cemetery in Peggs. Services have been entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
