Wilma's Story

Wilma June Nance, our beautiful wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend passed away April 12, 2017 from cancer in Stillwell, Oklahoma. Wilma was the fourth child born July 12, 1932 to James Henry and Margie Rebecca (Craft) Howard. She married Charles O. Sloan on October 7, 1950, in McAlester, Oklahoma and he preceded her in death on March 23, 1977. There were three sons born to this union. She was proud of her heritage as a member of the Cherokee Tribe and was a member of Bidding Creek Southern Baptist Church. She had a professional career with the State of Utah recovery services for twenty-eight years as a social worker. She was a worthy Matron of Eastern Star, Star Valley Chapter 3 in Utah. She married Farrell S Nance, February 9, 1981 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She gained two daughters and one son with this marriage. They lived in Orem, Utah until her retirement in 1988, then moving to Stillwell, Oklahoma.
Wilma is survived by her husband, Farrell of the home; sons, Carrol O Sloan and wife Joni, Kent Nance and wife Sharon; daughter, Janice Price and her husband Don; her very special granddaughter Tera Jo Hathaway and her husband Matt; brother, Jack Howard and his wife Mary K, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many friends.
June is preceded in death by her parents, and her first husband, Charles Sloan, two sons, Charles Michael Sloan and Curtis Darrell Sloan, brothers, Johnny Howard and Jimmy Howard; sisters, Peg Purkey and Jeannette Byrd.

Visitation will be 11:00 Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home, Fort Gibson, Oklahoma
Services will be 12:30 Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Chuck Glass officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
