William Thomas (Joe) Gritts of Hulbert, Oklahoma, went to his heavenly reunion to be with the Love of his Life and his Lord and Savior November 15, 2016, at the age of 87 years 8 months and 20 days, with his loving children by his side. A Christian by faith, Joe was a member of the First Assembly of God in Tahlequah, OK.

Joe was born February 26, 1929, in the Double Springs Community. He attended school at Double Springs and Shady Grove. He later met his soulmate, Ruth Hall at Double Springs Creek where they later became sweethearts. Joe and Ruth married on January 21, 1948 and lived most of their life in Hulbert, Oklahoma, where they raised a family of 3 sons and 4 daughters.

Joe worked as a truck driver in the oil and gas industry making long hauls for Sooner Pipe and Supply and later delivering propane locally for Stevensons LP Gas Company.

Joe enjoyed coaching baseball and fastpitch softball. He was known as Coach for many years to his sons, grandsons, and many around Cherokee County and various places. You could always find Joe (and Ruth, his trusted scorekeeper) on a ballfield every weekend and many week nights & hauling his little league teams to games. He loved the sport and treated each player as his own. In his later years, although it was hard for him to walk, you would see him attending sporting events of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He supported each of them in anything they chose to do. His rules to his children were: A winner never quits, and a quitter never wins You start something, you finish it and If you cant laugh and have a good time wherever you go, you need to stay home. Joe just loved life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Julia (Holt) Gritts; his wife of 68 years, Ruth; his first born son, William A. (Bill) Gritts; sisters, Louella Cloud, Agnes Welch, Edwina Claxton, and IdaLene Hale; half sister, Brooks Brock; and half brothers, Thomas and Glen Gritts.
