Thomas Audie V. Ward was born Jan. 4, 1936, in Lawrenceburg, Tenn. He was the sixth of eight children born to Thomas Miller Ward and Mary Magdaline (Howell) Ward. He passed away on Feb. 28, 2016, at the age of 80.
Tom graduated from Lakeview High School in Winter Garden, Fla. He attended Stetson and Middle Tennessee State College. He graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Science. Tom graduated from Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in 1965. He completed his internship in Clinton, Mo., and his surgical residency was in Tulsa, Okla. Tom was certified by the Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery on Feb. 18, 1975.
Tom practiced general surgery for 38 years. He began his career in Tulsa, performed surgery for 28 years at Tahlequah City Hospital, five years at the VA hospital in Muskogee, and retired from surgery in 2007.
He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his friends and family.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albert Ward, Robert Ward, Lee Ward, and Clinton Ward; and sisters, Onie Mae Garner, Mamie Lou Glover and Bessie Doss.
Those he leaves behind are his wife of 55 years, Leigh (Caffee) Ward; four children, Clint Miller Ward and wife Ellen, Lance Kendall Ward and wife Gail, Dr. Tye Whitney Ward and wife Andrea, and Jennifer Ward of Liberty, Mo.; six grandchildren, Ethan Miller Ward, Melanie Kay Ward, Audrey Leigh Ward, Ava Elizabeth Ward, Jasper Audie Ward, and Theron Robert Roscoe Ward; a brother, Larry Ward and wife Wilma of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; as well as many extended family members, colleagues and cherished friends.
