Thelbert T. Barnes was born in Cookson, OK July 25, 1938 to Teddy and Christine (Sellers) Barnes. He peacfully passed away at the Ranch in Tahlequah, OK on April 14, 2017 at the age of 78.
He graduated in Qualls in 1954 before working a 3-state harvest with his brother, Pete. Thelbert and Pete worked wheat harvest and later worked as Ranch hands in Kansas. While working for the Gardner Ranch in Kansas Thelbert fell head over heels for a waitress with curly red hair, Wanda McAllister. The two married September 13, 1959 and together they made a home where they raised their 5 children.
Thelbert went from working ranches in Kansas to pipelining. While working for Shamrock, Henkels & McCoy, and Sheehan, he and his brother Pete worked in all lower 48 states. Thelbert recently retired from Sheehan after many years of service. He was a proud member of the Pipeliners Local 798 Union for 50 years.
He and Wanda were an unstoppable team. They bought their first piece of property in Tahlequah, OK in 1963, with years of hard work it became what is now known as the T- Ranch, their lifetime family home.
He co-founded the Green County Rodeo Association in the 1970's and eventually produced rodeos as the award winning Barnes and Sons Rodeo Company. He was a gold card member of both the International Professional Rodeo Association and the American Cowboys Rodeo Association. He held the honor of 17 time Stock Contractor of the Year with the ACRA.
More recently, Thelbert gave his heart to Jesus. He and his precious wife, Wanda became faithful members of Exciting Southeast Baptist Church. They began hosting the annual Celebration of Life Revival after the passing of their Grandson Derek and opened their home to numerous youth retreits. The true change in Thelbert's life after knowing Christ was obvious to all who knew him. Because of his testimony of salvation through Jesus Chirst, we celebrate his life.
