TAHLEQUAH – Services for Speedy Chaffin Jr. are 2 p.m., Friday, June 5, at the First Baptist Church in Tahlequah. Serving as pallbearers are Gary Wing, Danny Deckard, Jack Tarrance, Randy Rountree, Dennis Chaffin, and Jim Guthrie. Honorary pallbearers are Gayle Bogle, Ed Moss, and “Gene” Noah Scott. Interment will follow in the Boudinot Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at tahlequahfuneral.com. Speedy Simmons Chaffin Jr. was born Feb. 12, 1944, in Tahlequah, to Speedy and Dorothy Sue (Simmons) Chaffin. He passed away in Tulsa on May 27, 2015, at the age of 71. Speedy attended Bagley High School before entering the United States Navy at the age of 17, where he earned his GED. He would later graduate from Northeastern State University with his master’s degree. In 1967, following his discharge, he married Linda McGaugh in Tahlequah. They shared over 47 years of marriage at the time of his passing. Speedy worked 39 years in education with positions ranging from bus driver to coach to teacher, concluding his career at Briggs Elementary as superintendent. He spent summers working at Speedy’s Service Stop, ranching and coaching summer sports. He is survived by is wife, Linda Chaffin; son, Scott Chaffin; grandchildren, Lindsey and Hunter Chaffin all of the home; brother, John Chaffin of Tahlequah; sister, Katie Chaffin of Tahlequah; nephew, Sonny Chaffin; as well as many extended family members, dear friends and loved ones who he will be greatly missed by. The family will host visitation Thursday, June 4, 5-7 p.m. at Green Country Funeral Home. Green Country Funeral Home, 203 S. Commercial Road, 918-458-5055.
