HULBERT – Memorial Services for Roy Lee Bruton will be held on Saturday, April 18, at 11 a.m. at the Peggs Community Church in Peggs Honorary pallbearers for Roy include Tyler Thompson, Gilbert Bruton, Steven Thompson, Chizas Trent, Ronnie Harvey, and Michael Rising-Sun Braden. Roy Lee Bruton was born on Dec. 30, 1936, in Imperial Beach, Calif., the son of Oscar and Francis (Gimlin) Bruton. He graduated from high school and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He married Maria Gutierrez on April 15, 1961, and together they raised three children, Steven, Diana, and Karen. Roy was an aircraft mechanic for the U.S. government. He loved his work and the men he worked with, and was a talented mechanic. When he had free time, he loved the outdoors and spent his free time fishing, hunting and camping. It was not unusual for Roy and Maria to start off on a long car ride and end up heavens knows where, but they had a blast getting there. Roy was very laid back and relaxed. He just saw no need in getting all worked up over the days events. He was in constant companionship with his canine buddies, and even shared his supper plate with them nightly. He was most apt to be found sitting on his porch with a cup of coffee, watching the sun come up, or go down, with his faithful dogs at his feet. He adored his children and his grandchildren. Every moment with them was a delight. He lost his best friend and wife on Nov. 19, 1997. After her passing, Roy made his home with his family in the Peggs community. He loved the peace and solitude of the country and all the good neighbors and friends he knew. Roy’s health began to fail him, and Roy went to his eternal rest on April 2, 2015, at his home in the country, with his family close by his side. Roy was 78 years old. He will be missed for all his humor and wisdom, and the love he shared with those who knew him best. He is preceded in death by his mother and father; his wife, Maria; one brother, Gerald Bruton; and one sister, Wanda Lindsey. He is survived by his three children, Steven Bruton and wife Lucy of Chula Vista, Calif., Diana Gonzales of Chula Vista, Calif., and Karen Thompson and husband Steve of Hulbert. He leaves two sisters, Ann Dodson, and Jean Hannah and husband Byron, all of Houston, Tex. His legacy lives on in his eight grandchildren, Gilbert Bruton, Amie Bruton, Alyssa Gonzales, Jenna Trent and husband Chizas, Kortnie Rising-Sun Braden and husband Michael, Amanda Harvey and husband Ronnie, Jessica Stromp and Maria Stromp. He also leaves eight great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones. Reed-Culver Funeral Home, 117 W. Delaware, 918-456-2551.
