Murv Jacob

January 27, 1945 - February 26, 2019

Murv Jacob For three decades, Murv Jacob's art gallery and studio has stood as a fixture in Tahlequah's North End. There he created masterful works of art that won him acclaim far and near. His paintings are already established in major American museums; his accomplishments are well documented and recorded for anyone to discover in libraries and online. But for our community, Murv's studio stands for a great deal more than his artwork.
Murv's studio was a hotbed of creativity where songs were written on the spot, where stories were born, where local bands recorded their first albums. It's a place where your son or daughter might be encouraged to sit up in Murv's chair and paint their own strokes into one of his paintings. Murv took great delight in inspiring young people to develop their talents and build their self esteem. After school, the bigger kids would often appear at Murv's open studio door. Always welcomed, they'd be treated to a good dose of his never ending wit and friendly advice.
Murv's generosity was given freely to everyone who came his way. He donated his artwork to promote countless local causes; he created and signed custom event posters; he gave his paintings to auction for fundraisers; he loaned guitars to musicians. Now and then a wanderer would come along who needed a place to stay for a while and Murv would offer up his studio as shelter and home. This is the Murv Tahlequah has lost and this is the Murv we will remember.
Murv's immediate family members include Jason Kottman and Lana King Kottman, Holly Jacob Brinkley and Scott Brinkley, Jana Jacob McKnight and David McKnight, Nick Duvall, Roxy Duvall and Sam Manning, Debbie Duvall and our seven wonderful grandchildren Robyn, Hanah, Zoey Belle, Chloe, Malcolm, Zander Orion and Johnny Poseidon.
Our family extends an open invitation to all Murv's many friends and associates to attend a Going Away Party for him this Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the American Legion Hut downtown in Tahlequah's City Park. Doors open at 4 pm and close at 11 pm.

Murv has been a loved, close and trusted friend, mentor, brother, a bedrock of alternative dimensions and realities. Pioneer of inner and outer consciousness's. Murv and I are in constant communication, Murv is very much alive! He still guides me in painting with words.

Sorry to hear of Murv's passing. I first met Murv through Debbie when I worked at the Cherokee National Historical Society during one of the Trail of Tears Art Show. I enjoyed his wit and humor. He always made you feel welcome.
