Mildred Louise Hicks was born on August 6th, 1933 in Tulsa, OK, the daughter of Fayette Allen and Mildred Lois (Ferrell) Thompson. Upon graduating from high school, she attended Central State College in Edmond, OK and graduated with her degree in education. It was while in Edmond she met and married the love of her life, Marion Franklin Hicks, who was attending classes to become an industrial arts educator. They were married in the campus chapel on January 20, 1955. This union was blessed with a son Darcy, born February 17th, 1956 and a daughter Shelley, born May 17th, 1958. The family resided on Norman Street in Warr Acres until 1973. While in Oklahoma City, Louise taught kindergarten pupils, lovingly guiding them through their first steps in education. Louise retired to Cookson, OK with her husband, and together they started the Marion F. Hicks and Associates Land Surveying and built the High View Park for Mobile Homes. The family loved time spent on Lake Tenkiller, boating the day away or camping at Cookson Bend. Louise was a member of T.A.C.O. and a member of the Cookson United Methodist Church, always working where asked. She liked to watch OU Sooner football. Her family was the most important part of her life. She adored any chance she got to gather her children and grandson for a holiday, and take family photographs. She loved keeping up with their many activities and was their biggest supporter. Her husband Marion passed from this life in 2010, and Louise remained at home in Cookson, spending time with those she loved. Louise passed from this life on September 17th, 2016 in Tahlequah, OK. She was 83 years old. She will be greatly missed by all those who loved and knew her.
Louise is preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother, Fay Allen Thompson, and her loving husband, Marion Hicks.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, son Darcy Hicks of Cookson, OK, and her daughter, Shelley Pool and husband Eddie of Houston, TX. She lives on in her grandson, Ryan Pool of Dallas, TX. She leaves her cousins, Judith Franks Doebler, Michele Buxton and husband Bill, Terri Bonner and husband Tom, and Brent Franks and wife Kay. She leaves a niece and nephew, Leslie Thompson and George Muniz, and Phillip Thompson and Lori Anderson-Martinez, and great niece, Danielle Fay Muniz, and great nephews, Jacob Allen Thompson, Tanner "AJ" Thompson, and Mason John Martinez. She leaves a sister-n-law Jolene Friedman Thompson.
