Michael's Story

Michael Anthony Murphy was born in Tacoma, Washington, on May 11, 1942 son of Calvin E. and Vera Alta (Norman) Murphy. He passed away in Tulsa, Oklahoma on January 14, 2017, at the age of 74. Michael spent most of his life in the Bay Area of California until his retirement from Shell Oil Refinery in Martinez, California where he worked as an electrician and fireman. Michael moved to Park Hill, Oklahoma following his retirement but remained active in the community. While living in California he was active in the Diablo Valley Masonic Lodge #448. He was also active in the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and a member of the Provincial Grand Lodge as Sir Michael A. Murphy, and Oklahoma State Commissioner of the Clan Macneil Association of America. Michael enjoyed researching family genealogy. Michael especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren Michael was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Calvin E. Murphy Jr. He is survived by his two children, Michael Anthony Murphy Jr. of California, and daughter, Karen Bishop and husband Bruce of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three grandchildren, Lauren Bishop, Katherine Bishop and Evelyn Bishop; his younger brother, Timothy P. and Nina Murphy of Park Hill, Oklahoma; his step brother, Byron Lenerose of Canyon, Texas and his step sister, Anitra West of Longmont, Colorado and several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
