He was raised at home with his sisters, Tracy and Lacie. He attended school and graduated from Tahlequah High School. He worked in the food industry assisting the cooks. Whenever he had some free time, he loved to go for long walks. He loved the water and enjoyed fishing, swimming, and any chance to relax at the river or lake. He liked to work in the yard. He had a happy disposition and a laugh that would intoxicate a room. He was happy-go-lucky all of the time, and friendly with anyone he met. The most important person in the world to him was his son, Luke Matthew. He loved any chance he got to spend time with him, watching cartoons or playing in the yard. Matthew was happiest in the presence of his family, sharing a laugh or a joke. His time on earth was too brief, and Matthew went to his eternal rest on March 30, 2015, at his home in Tahlequah. Matthew was 36 years old. His absence leaves a void that will be so very hard to fill. Matthew has gone on to join his loved ones on the other side, his grandparents, Andrew Phillips, Jick and Carl Thompson, Ruth and Blue Johnson, and Vinnie and George Candy. He also joins his aunts and uncles, Wiley Phillips, Andy Phillips, Janey Lee and Alice Phillips; and one cousin, Justin Phillips. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Andrea Short; his mother and father both of Tahlequah, Robert and Brenda Thompson; two sisters, Tracy Thompson and husband Joseph Roberts of Tahlequah, Lacie Dale and husband Zach of McLouth, Kansas. He leaves his aunt and uncle, Sue Ann Maxey and husband Mike of Burnt Cabin; his stepdad, Keith Johnson; and his nieces and nephews, Trenton Dale, Trinity Dale, Tennyson Dale, Brianna Thompson, Josiah Finney; and some very close cousins, Kevin Phillips, Shannon Coleman and husband Roy and their children, Sarah Johnson and husband Clint, Mercy and husband Chris Polson and their children, Blake Maxey, Logan Maxey; as well as many other friends and loved ones. Reed-Culver Funeral Home, 117 W. Delaware, 918-456-2551.
