MaeDean Meigs-Collins was born on April 24th, 1933 in the Carter Community near Keys, the daughter of Rice and Zella Mae (Cochrum) Carter. She was born the fourth child of eight children. She graduated from Bagley High School in Tahlequah and attended classes at NSU prior to establishing Meigs Jewelry in Tahlequah in 1961. MaeDean exhibited a strong work ethic, managing her business six days per week and gathering the family at each weeks end for a big Sunday meal. She was a gifted seamstress, sewing clothes and hand-stitching quilts for her children and grandchildren that have become treasured heirlooms. She spent countless hours toiling in her garden, bringing delight to others each season through beautiful blooms, jams, fruits and vegetables.
MaeDean was a nurturer by nature and loved her role as proud mother of Michael, David, Lisa, Autumn, and Susan. She married Bill Collins in 1990 and shared many wonderful years with him until his passing in 2012. She and Bill attended Cornerstone Fellowship in Tahlequah, where she set the standard as the first café lady, ministering through food. She had a true servants heart and expressed her love through her joy of cooking. Many memories center around her kitchen and the Southern specialties she whipped up, from fried chicken and mashed potatoes with gravy to pies and fruit cobblers. Her adventurous spirit led her to travels to Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, and Florida, to name a few, and she left many a dirt road unsettled zipping by in her sports car. She was generous at heart, strong in will, and quick to laugh.
MaeDean was quick to speak of Gods goodness in her life and enjoyed each day with a grateful heart. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, September 4th, 2017. She was 84 years old.
MaeDean is preceded in death by her mother, father, husband Bill, two twin daughters, Georgia Louise and Nancy Leigh Meigs, six brothers, Deward, Earl, Robert, Felix, Finis, and Clell Carter, and one grandson, Jeremy Meigs.
She is survived by her children, Cooie Michael Meigs and wife Karen, David Meigs and wife Janell, Lisa Nolan and husband Allen, Autumn Smith and husband Jeff, and Susan Jordan and husband Kevin, all of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She also leaves one sister, Mary Carter, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; her 13 grandchildren, Katelyn Vinson and husband Jacob of Muskogee, Millie Meigs of Tahlequah, Heather Meigs of Shawnee, Misty Holderbee and husband Billy of Piedmont, Drs.
