Luther Wayne Kelley Sr. or Luke to his many family and friends, was born on May 12th, 1935 in McAlester, OK, the son of Hubert Ary and Bernice (Hedgecock) Kelley. He grew up in a household with four brothers and three sisters, attended school, and then he met and married his sweetheart and best friend, Betty Sue Estes on September 23rd, 1953 in Modesto, CA. This union was blessed with three sons, Luke, Ross and Billy, and lasted the test of time for 64 years, not always perfect, but always together. Luke spent his working career as a backhoe operator in Modesto, CA. In the 1960-1970 era, he owned and operated Tam Sewers Inc, a construction company mainly in the Marin County California area. He was a man with a servants heart, and dedicated hours to the Lion Club in California, serving as President, served with the Shriners, and he and Betty were constant at the Crossway Baptist Church, serving in whatever capacity was asked of them. He was always in the great outdoors on his free time. Working as a shade tree mechanic, hunting, fishing, was a really outstanding duck caller, and bowled with the best of them. When it came to football, the Sooners had no better fan, and the 49ers and the Giants were followed as well. Luke and Betty loved their family and any chance to spend with them was time well spent for them. Luke often found the family gathered for Sunday dinner and holiday dinners, enjoying Bettys wonderful cooking and his stories. Betty passed in 2016, and Luke remained at home with the boys until the Lord called this good and faithful servant home from his labors on January 10th, 2018 at his home in Tahlequah, with his family close by his side. He was 82 years old. Luke will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother, wife Betty, two brothers John and Arnold and one sister, Wilma.
Those left to cherish his memory include his three sons, Luke Kelley Jr and wife Lori of Petaluma, CA, Ross Kelley and wife Teresa of Bella Vista, AR, and Billy Kelley of Tahlequah, OK. He leaves two brothers, Claude Kelley of Waterford, CA and Foy Kelley of Oakdale, CA, and two sisters, Doris Kelley of Stockton, CA and Juanita Byres of Caney, OK. He lives on in his two grandsons, Ryan and Michael Kelley as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
