Funeral services for Louise Lucy Diffee are 10:00 am, Monday June 20, 2016, at the First Baptist Church, Tahlequah. Officiating will be Pastor Buddy Hunt. Pallbearers are Ryder Gann, Randy Gann, John Anderson, Dennis Beyer Duel Smith and Kenney Diffee. Honorary pallbearers are Enoch Diffee, Don Rutherford and Gene Thompson. Following the service, Lucy will be laid to rest in the Tahlequah City Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at tahlequahfuneral.com.
Louise "Lucy" Diffee was born on October 16, 1931, in Gideon, Oklahoma, to R. Jefferson Rutherford and Flora (Dause) Rutherford. She passed away on June 16, 2016, at the age of 84 years and 8 months.
Having been born in Gideon, Lucy was a lifelong resident and native Oklahoman. She graduated from Bagley High School in 1949, and received her Bachelors Degree in Education from Northeastern State University in 1952. She taught briefly before being employed with the Shell Oil Company as an executive secretary. Lucy worked for many years as a legal secretary before taking time off to raise Kenney.
Later, Lucy would return to the workforce at Tahlequah Public Works, working in the drive up window she also volunteered her time working with the hospital auxiliary before retiring in 2002.
Lucy was an avid seamstress, and her family cherished her Italian cream cakes. She was an excellent cook and created and hosted many family activities and holiday gatherings. She was a very loving person and devoted to her family.
She had been a member of First Baptist Church for more than five decades.
Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Kenney Diffee.
She is survived by her son, Kenney Diffee of Tahlequah; her brother Don Rutherford and Ramona of Tahlequah, Oklahoma: several nieces and nephews, Lisa Rutherford of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Robin Gann of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Dennis Beyer of Owasso, Oklahoma, and John Anderson also of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Lucy was a devoted aunt.
