Lizzie Sam was born in Braggs, OK on May 27, 1928 and died on November 3, 2017 at her granddaughters home in Cookson. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, November 9 at 11:30 at Keys Baptist Church in Park Hill with Reverend Andy Bowman and Reverend John King officiating. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Cemetery near Tahlequah.
She was preceded in death by her parents Watt and SeeWee (Johnson) Sam, stepmother Susie (Johnson) Sam, three brothers, George, John and Nick Sam; two sisters Katie Sam and Sallie Duff. She is survived by her sister Lucy Ketcher of Welling; daughter Chris Houston and husband, Jimmy; granddaughter and devoted caregiver, Sherri Houston, grandson Jamie Houston and wife Mandi; nephew/grandson Richard Sam. Also survived by one great granddaughter, Jordyn Houston, and two great grandsons, Jeremy and Kyle Combs; four great great grandchildren, Kutler, Merrick, Avarie, and Brantley Combs. She is also survived by three nieces, Arlene Gayton and Geraldine Russell, of Texas, and Cornelia Cornelissen of Massachusetts. Three nephews, Roger, David and Leonard Sam, all of Texas. She is also survived by many other extended family members and loved ones.
Lizzie was a gentle hard working lady. She spent many years of her life working as a housekeeper at Sixshooter Resort on Tenkiller. She thoroughly enjoyed attending all the sports the great grandkids participated in but her most favorite form of recreation was fishing.
She was a member of Keys Baptist Church where she was everyones Grandma. She was the oldest active member of Keys Baptist Church at the time of her death.
