Lee Alvin Slape
Alvin joined the United States Navy on September 30, 1943, serving during World War II. He received an honorable discharge as a Seaman first class on December 8, 1945 having served two years, two months, and 9 day. His service career took him to Leyto Landings October 20, 1944 to November 18, 1944. He was aboard the USS Calvert serving at Marshal Island, January 31, 1944 to February 18, 1944. Capture occupation in Saipan and Tinian, June 15, 1944 to July 28, 1944. Lingayen Landing January 9, 1945 to December of 1945.
He married the love of his life, Pagie Dewain Baker, on April 4, 1945 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. They shared over 73 years of life and marriage together. They continued running cross breed stock cattle from that time to present. Alvin and his wife owned and operated a Grade A Dairy for 43 years in the Norwood community of Cherokee County. His family was selected as farm family of the year for Cherokee County in the early 60's.
He became a Bank of Cherokee County Board Member in 1975. Alvin was a valuable member who served and helped the transition of new ownership in the bank. He even hosted board meetings in his home on several occasions; when the bank was being remodeled and when he had a knee replacement. Alvin continued to be important to the bank until he retired in 2014 after serving for 39 years. He also served as a board member for Norwood Public Schools and a charter member of Norwood Lakeview Baptist Church for many years.
Alvin loved his family very much and enjoyed spending as much time as possible with them. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Coy and Ida Slape; two granddaughters, Lisa Faye Richardson and Karren Jane Fryar.
Alvin is survived by his loving wife, Pagie Slape of the home; children, Larry Slape and wife Patsy of Hulbert, OK, and Shirley Flaska and husband Jim of Fort Gibson, OK; grandchildren, Darren Fryar of Fort Gibson, Dana Homier and husband Sam of Arcadia, OK, and David Slape of Hulbert, OK; great-grandchildren, Chelsea Moffett and husband Kyle of Fort Gibson, OK, Carlee Fryar of Fort Gibson, OK, Ann Homier and Brittany Homier both of Arcadia, OK; step grandsons, Jay Flaska and wife Monica of St. Joseph, MO; step grandson, Tom Flaska of St Joseph, MO; step great-grandchildren, Isabella and Celia Flaska of St. Joseph, MO; step great-grandson, Cameron Reynolds of Muskogee, OK; step great-great grandchildren, Stryker, Makenna, Beckham and Kamdynn Reynolds; and many other family members and friends.
Alvin's family will be receiving friends 5:30 P.M. - 7:30 P.M., Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Cornerstone Funeral Home.
A celebration of Alvin's life will be 1:00 P.M., Friday, December 14, 2018 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Botts officiating. Interment will follow at Citizen's Cemetery with Will Botts, Tim Leatherman, Paul Howe, Albert McMahan, Ronnie Kneeling and Kyle Moffett serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Cantrell, Carl Gibson, and Joe Benge.
