Joyce Viola (Davis) Candy was born in Braggs, OK on May 1st, 1932 to Floyd H. and Jo Ella (Woodard) Davis. As a child, Joyce grew up living in Gruber. When the government took over the area in 1942, her and her family was forced to move. Out of this difficult time came one of Joyces greatest blessings, she met the love of her life, Lewis Dean Candy. They later married in the Tahlequah area in 1951 and spent their honeymoon enjoying the beauty of Dripping Springs. Together they moved to North Carolina while Lewis was serving his country in the 127th Infantry Dixie Division for the United States Army. Always loving the Tahlequah area they returned after his service making Tahlequah their home. They were blessed with four wonderful children, three sons, Jack, Mark, James and one daughter, Karen. Joyce loved being a mother and grandmother; she cherished every moment spent with her family and especially her grandchildren. Joyce was the kindest person you would ever meet and saw the good in every situation no matter what it looked like. A Christian by faith, she put her faith in her Lord and Savior. She traveled to various churches with Lewis and the family ministering the Gospel. She has walked this Christian walk for many, many years and was a true inspiration to all of those around her. On July 30th, 2016, surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home, Joyce passed from this life to be with her Heavenly Father and reunited with her cherished husband, Lewis. Her kindness and love for life will be remembered forever.
Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her three brothers, Carl, Warren and Floyd H. Davis, Jr, two sisters, Amy Young and Dorothy Clinkenbeard, one daughter-in-law, Laura Candy, and one grandson, Caleb Founds.
Those left to cherish her memory include her three sons, Jack Candy and wife Lorri of Bixby, OK, Mark Candy of Inola, OK, and James Candy of Tahlequah, OK, one daughter, Karen Founds of Bellaire, OH and one sister, Ellouise Nadeau of Las Vegas, NV. Her memory lives on through her two loved grandchildren, Benjamin Candy and wife Melissa of Broken Arrow, OK and Amy Jo Driver and Dominique of Martins Ferry, OH, two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Vincent Candy as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of friends and loved ones.
