CMsgt John W Vaughn, USAF (retired) passed away on September 20, 2017. John was born on May 10, 1932 to the late Nathan A. Vaughan and Maude F. (Bond) Vaughan in Liberty, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Willa Mae Vaughan and one brother, Joe Vaughan. Survivors include his wife Joyce Jean; daughter Rochelle Johnson and husband Mike, son Kevin Vaughn and wife Samantha, four grandchildren; Ryan Vaughn, Aaron Johnson, Jill Sumpter, Kelsie Vaughn, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
John graduated from high school in Roland, Oklahoma and he graduated from Washburn University in Topeka, KS. He joined the Air Force in July 1950, receiving basic training in San Antonio, Texas. After 23 ½ years of active duty, he retired to Burlingame, KS where he lived on a small farm. He served in Sacramento, CA twice, Big Springs, TX, Enid, OK, Fairbanks, AK, Winslow, AZ, Newburgh, NY, Colorado Springs, CO, Osan, Korea, Glendale, AZ and Topeka, KS. He enjoyed volunteering in the library and in a nursing home as an Ombudsman. He also enjoyed preparing tax returns as an ARP Tax Aide. He was an avid coin collector for many years and belonged to the Numismatic Association and several coin clubs. He had several positions in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion including Commander of Osage City, KS Post for two years. John will be interred at the Fort Gibson Oklahoma National Cemetery at 2:00pm on Monday, September 25, 2017. Graveside services will be conducted at that time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Keys School, Park Hill, OK.
