Holcomb was born on March 20, 1946, in Tahlequah, Okla., the daughter of Frank and Fannie (Scraper) Sanders. She grew up with four brothers and two sisters: Charley, Henry, Sam, Oly, Betty and Annie. In 1973, Hazel married Jeff Holcomb, and they spent their married lives in the Tailholt community until Jeff’s passing in 1991. Hazel was employed at Pepsi for 32 years, serving as supervisor. When she wasn’t working, she liked country music, especially George Strait. She liked to go visit the countryside with her sister and best friend, Betty. Her many nieces and nephews were like her children, and she spent her free time keeping up with their activities. She loved her family dearly and couldn’t wait until the entire family gathered for a meal or holiday get-togethers. Hazel was a member of Stokes Ceremonial Grounds, and attended often with Betty. She was very proud of her Keetoowah heritage and traditional ways. Hazel passed from this life on Jan. 27, 2016, at her sister’s home in Tahlequah, with her loving family gathered close by her side. Hazel was 69 years old. She will be greatly missed. Hazel is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jeff; and her brother, Sam Sanders. Those left to cherish her memory include three brothers, Charley Holcomb of Welling, Henry Holcomb of Briggs, and Oly Holcomb of Welling. Her two sisters include Betty Holcomb of Tahlequah, and Annie Taylor of Vian.
