Garl Gene Lamons
August 19, 1927 - November 23, 2017
Garl Gene worked as a farm hand for the first 4 years of their marriage until he and Ruth could purchase a farm of their own. He was a full time farmer until he went to work for the United States Postal Service. He was a Rural Route Mail Carrier for 32 years while maintaining the farm. After retiring from the post office, he went back to full time farming, raising Brangus Cattle on his 406 acre farm until he was 80 years old.
Garl enjoyed watching rodeos, bull riding, horse races, and the various sports his sons and grandchildren participated in. He received great joy from having his grandchildren around him and spending time with them during summers.
Garl Gene was preceded in death by one infant sister, Ila Mae, one Brother, Leroy, his parents, one granddaughter, Kim Whisenant, and one great granddaughter, Alyssa Lamons. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ruth Lamons of the home; his sons, Eddie and Luke; two brothers, Thomas Earl Lamons and Billie Dean Lamons; two sisters, Virginia Kathlene Hoffman and Alice Ann Hamby; eight grandchildren, David, Danika, John, Robert, and Charles Lamons, Laura Reed, Marijo Brennan, Heather Braun; seven Great Grandchildren, Chris Lamons, Mandi Scicluna, Jessica, Grace, and Mathew Whisenant, Sophie Braun, Adrian Hewitt; one great-great granddaughter, Skye Reed; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
A visitation will be held for Garl on Tuesday, November 28th, 2017 from noon until 6:00 pm at Reed-Culver Funeral Home; with the family present from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, November 29th, 2017 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church of Tahlequah with Chaplain Kevin Webster officiating. Burial will follow at Tahlequah City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers for Garl are John Newton Lamons, Robert Garl Lamons, Charles Elbert Lamons, Arlie Girdner, Willie Fritts, and Wyatt Ford.
