TAHLEQUAH – Ellen Rose Norris died Friday, May 29, 2015, at the age of 79 in Tahlequah following a long illness. She was attended by several of her children. Memorial services for Ellen will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 6, at The First United Methodist Church of Tahlequah. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made in Ellen’s memory to the Mission Committee of First United Methodist Church, Tahlequah. Ellen was born on Jan. 29, 1936, in Flat Rock, Mich., the daughter of Carl and Rose Kortier. Ellen lived in several states during her life including Florida, Tennessee, Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. Wherever she resided, Ellen lived a life dedicated to her family and her community. A passion for active community service and lifelong learning was evident throughout Ellen’s life. She worked as a volunteer with the Girl Scouts, American Red Cross emergency services, Habitat for Humanity, Institute of Texan Culture, Kids Connection of Tahlequah, Feed My Sheep of Tahlequah and a multitude of other organizations. Ellen cherished the relationships she built, the lives she touched, and the knowledge she gained from each of these services. Those who remain to celebrate Ellen’s life include her sister, Vivian Witte; brothers, John (Jack) Kortier and Eugene (Gene) Kortier; seven children, Valerie Thomison, Nan Jones, Kevin Norris, Keith Norris, Michelle Vetters, Jason Norris, and Pamela Prestridge; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many cherished friends and loved ones. Preceding Ellen in death were her parents, Carl and Rose Kortier; and great-granddaughter, Adeline Josephine Maseman. Final arrangements were placed under the care of Green Country Funeral Home.
