Dr. Joyce's Story
Joyce Lee Briggs was born in Grandfield, Oklahoma, to Harold Andrew and Leatha May Young on February 18, 1944. After a long, hard fought and courageous battle with cancer Joyce died at her sister's home in Tahlequah, Oklahoma surrounded by her family on January 15, 2017, at the age of 72.
Joyce graduated from Ardmore High School in 1962, and from Southeastern State College in 1966. Joyce began her career as a teacher and retired as a Superintendent of Schools.
Joyce was preceded in death by both her parents.
She is survived by three siblings, her sister, Janice Lynn Rogers of Wimberley, Texas, her brother Harold Andrew Young (Drew) and wife Sherry of Sherman, Texas, and sister, Martha Ann Green and husband Joe of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; her nephew, Traye Andrew Green and wife Rebecca, niece, Jana Lee Ann Green, and a great nephew, Jordan Andrew Green all of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; and her God Son, Austin Gregory Harmon of Austin, Texas. Following Joyce's personal request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Choice Hospice, 1002 South Mc Quarrie Avenue Suite B, Wagoner, Oklahoma 74467. Joyce will be missed by many of her former students, friends and loved ones, but never forgotten for the impact she made on so many.
