Dawna Sue Chase Hawkins, 57, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at her home in Tahlequah, OK. She was born in Tahlequah on March 11, 1959, to Harvey Forrest Chase, Jr., and Mary Lillian (Hicks) Chase. Dawna was also welcomed into the family by her brother Frosty, sister Marjie, and a very special first cousin Debby. Dawna was indeed the "baby" of the family in every sense and never stopped reminding everyone of that fact.
Dawna attended Tahlequah Public Schools and graduated in 1977. She then completed Secretarial Science at Okmulgee Tech. Dawna married J.B. Miller in 1978, and to that union, Kassie Delight Miller was born, the first girl in the family since Dawna. Dawna also never stopped reminding everyone of that fact. J.B. worked in offshore drilling and they lived in Houston the early part of their marriage.
Dawna later married Bernie Hawkins on December 4, 1982, in Miami, OK. Their family became complete with the addition of three sons, Bradley, Brian, and Brent. Dawna and Bernie enjoyed many adventures with their sons while camping, hunting, and fishing on numerous float trips. Bernie and Dawna also had a passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles and took road trips and attended the Sturgis Motorcycle rallies. Dawna took pleasure in meeting new people and making lifelong friends. She became a photojournalist and submitted many pictures to motorcycle magazines.
Dawna became a volunteer with the homeless coalition and helped serve lunch to many. She finally found a service where she felt she could make a difference. Dawna also liked to sew and do craft work, check out garage sales and flea markets, and talk.
Dawna's greatest passion was keeping up with her grandkids on Facebook and visiting with them. Her last craft was making name pillows for her two grandsons, Bryson and Flint.
Around ten years ago, Dawna became her Mother's caregiver and companion. They enjoyed going to the Casino, watching westerns and police shows, eating out, visiting friends and each other's company.
Dawna was preceded in death by her father, Harvey Forrest Chase Jr., grandparents Harvey Forrest Chase and Jean (Mallow) Chase, George Earl Hicks and Grace Marie (Witt) Hicks, Uncles George Earl Hicks, Jr. and Johnnie Norwood Hicks, Aunt Barbara (Chase) Edwards, brother Harvey Forrest (Frosty) Chase III, a nephew Harley Andrew Chase, and a cousin Dustin Edward Hicks.
Those left to cherish her memory include her four adored children, Kassie Gladd and husband Scott of Claremore, Bradley Hawkins and wife Valerie of Florence, CO, Brian Hawkins and wife Jennifer of Grove, OK, and Brent Hawkins of West Cliffe, CO. She leaves her mother, Mary Lillian (Hicks) Chase, one sister, Marjie Dowling and brother-in-law Billy of Tahlequah, OK, and an aunt, Madelon Berry of Texas. She leaves her cherished grandchildren Bryson (Brian) and Flint (Bradley) and her very special cousin Debby and husband Lloyd of Chouteau, OK, as well as many other relatives, friends, and loved ones.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 on April 13, 2016, at the Tahlequah City Cemetery Pavilion
