Dale Jerry Oxford was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma on February 22, 1940, to Melvin and Cornelia (Phillips) Oxford, and departed this life to be with our Lord on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 in Tahlequah Oklahoma at the age of 76 years and 2 months.
Growing up, Dale attended grade school at both Slate Bluff and Lane School in Cherokee County, receiving his high school diploma at Winslow High School located in northwest Arkansas. Dale worked as a carpenter and as an appliance repairman for much of his life, but was truly a "Jack of all trades". He enjoyed playing bluegrass/country/gospel music, being an accomplished fiddle and guitar player. He met the love of his life in 1963, Iva Jane Taylor, in Watts, Oklahoma, and they were married for 53 years, making their home in Welling, Oklahoma.
Dale is proceeded in death by both of his parents, one sister, Delorse Reeve, and one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Oxford. He is survived by his wife, Iva Oxford, of the home, his son Larry Oxford and wife, Doris, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, daughter Loretta Lofton and husband, Jim, of Stilwell, Oklahoma, daughter Leah Williford and husband Joe, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, two sisters, Teresa Walkabout and Lisa Knight, both of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Dustin Oxford, Brandon Quinn, and Stephanie Tudor, four great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives, friends and loved ones.
A memorial service for Dale will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Welling General Baptist Church. Flowers may be sent to the church that morning or early afternoon of service.
