Charles Darrell Underwood Jr. was born on May 11th, 1974 in Maricopa County, Phoenix, AZ, the son of Charles Darrell Sr. and Ella Irene (Hatmaker) Underwood. Charles Darrell Jr. was affectionately called Darrell or "Pudley" by his family and friends. He grew up in a household with one brother, Jeffrey Scott and one sister, Nikki Michelle. The family relocated to the Tahlequah area and it was here that Darrell graduated from high school. He began his working career at Gates Corporation in Siloam Springs and then worked for a number of years at O'Reilly Auto Parts and most recently had worked for Grissom John Deere in Muskogee, OK. Darrell was a hardworking man, who loved spending his off hours with his family and friends. He was the joker in the room that just couldn't come up with enough ways to make you laugh. He loved bringing a little fun to the work place. When he was not working, he loved days spent fishing with his best friend and son, Justin. There was always an old car that needed a makeover, and friends to help him do it. Then there were the drag races to attend, every chance he got. He enjoyed collecting Harley Davidson memorabilia, enjoying the view, and being outdoors. At home, he demonstrated his expertise on the grill, this man could grill anything! He was a loving and tender hearted son, father, brother, companion and friend. He liked to relax and spend time with Samantha Jo, his best friend's baby. He liked to spend quality time with his companion, Kimberly, watching a little TV and just relaxing with those who knew him best. He loved life and everything in it, every day was a new adventure for Darrell. His life ended all too soon, Wednesday, June 22nd, 2016 in Tahlequah, OK, with his family by his side. He was 42 years old. Darrell will be greatly missed by his family and friends. It wasn't he was perfect or even pretended to be, but he was genuine, sincere, and loved those he devoted his life to.
Darrell has gone on to join his grandparents, Buster and Pearl Hatmaker, and Charles Raymond and Florene Underwood. He joins his father, Charles Darrell Underwood Sr., and his step grandson, Tanner Smith.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving mother, Ella Irene Underwood of the home. Darrell leaves his son, Justin McCoy Underwood and his son, Robert Lee McCoy, both of Tahlequah. Darrell has a brother, Jeffrey Scott Underwood and his wife, Stephnie of Tahlequah, OK, and one sister, Nikki Michelle Mills and companion Ed Ledbetter of Muskogee, OK. He leaves his dear and close companion, Kimberly Davis and her children of the home in Tahlequah, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and loved ones.
