Charles Douglas Ballard, or Charlie to his family and friends, was born on Oct. 3, 1950, in Tahlequah, the son of Donald and Ruby Pauline (Young) Ballard. He had two brothers and four sisters at home. Charlie enjoyed playing in the family band with his two brothers. He taught himself to play keyboards at age 13, guitar and about any other kind of instrument he chose to play. He loved the ‘60s rock ‘n’ roll, and he and his brothers would spend their evenings jamming out to the delight of their family and friends. Upon graduating from school, he attended Okmulgee Technical College and became a plumber. He would later return to Northeastern State University and begin his studies in music. He married his best friend and companion, Kathy Dean Bailey, on Aug. 10, 1985. Charlie was the proud father of one son, Aaron and one daughter, Amy. He worked for Mullin Plumbing in Broken Arrow, and had worked in this profession for 51 years. Whenever he had the chance, he loved to spend time with his family and his many friends. He was quick to tease his friends and had a laugh that was infectious. He was blessed with a wicked sense of humor. He enjoyed helping his mother around the house and occasionally, doing a little gardening. He read the Bible from cover to cover, and trusted God to get him through his busy day. The Lord called his faithful one from his labors on April 21, 2015, in Tulsa. Charlie was 64 years old. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Charlie is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ivy and James Young; his mother and father; two sisters, Shirley Baskin and Brenda Sweptston; one baby sister, Nita Ballard; brother-in-law, Kenneth Sweptston; sister-in-law, Sharon Lambeth; and brother-in-law, Tony Schuh. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Kathy of the home in Tulsa; one son, Aaron Dale Ballard and wife Jessica of Tulsa; one step daughter; and two brothers, Simon Ballard of Kansas, and Ricky Ballard and wife Julie of Tahlequah. His sisters include Bernice Cookson and husband David of Welling, and Sandra Wyers also of Welling. Other family includes, his grandson, Cody Nicewander of Moore; his sister-in-law, Rose Stock of Dallas, Texas; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
