Funeral Services for Bobby Ray Gibson, 81, of Tahlequah, will be 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2017, in the First Baptist Church, Tahlequah. Officiating will be Pastor Dan Taylor. Serving as pall bearers are Ryan Meador, Brian Wilson, Billy Gibson, Bobby Gibson, Mike Sellers, and Larry Blackman. Interment will follow at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, OK, under the care of Green Country Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at tahlequahfuneral.com.
Bobby was born the son of John and Laura (King) Gibson in Tahlequah, OK on Feb. 24, 1936. He died in Tulsa, OK on March 17, 2017. He grew up in Tahlequah and attended Oakdale School near Briggs. On July 8, 1955, he married Sylvia before entering the US Navy July 26, 1955. He served until August of 1959, where his last duty assignment was in Japan.
Following his military service, he lived in California where he worked as a truck driver, and in 1974 he brought his family to Oklahoma. He opened a convenience store, "Gibson Quick Stop" in Tahlequah. Bobby had also worked in the oil fields, and ran a pop route, delivering RC Cola, as well as operating Gibson Car Lot.
Although he enjoyed fishing, gardening, driving back county roads, picking wild onions and mushrooms, his biggest love was for his grand babies and family.
Preceding him in death are his parents John and Laura Gibson; his wife Sylvia; and siblings Vernon, Jake, Sue, Betty, and 3 infant siblings Johnny, Brenda, and Loretta.
Surviving him are his children Dwight Keith Gibson and wife Juanita, of Stilwell, Karen Scherado and husband Wayne of Norwood, and Sharon Gibson of Tahlequah; grandchildren, Tiffany Scherado, Stephanie Cervantes, Keith Garner, Natalie Meador, Jonathan Gibson, Valerie Wilson, and Sarah Gibson; great grandchildren, Akadia, Zayne, Jace, Maci, Mason, Nathan, Lilia, and Cora; and brothers and sisters Gerald, Bill, Dorothy, Ed, Mack, and Patti; and a host of other relatives, friends, and loved ones.
