Funeral services for Billy Don "Bill" Carter Sr., 80, of Park Hill, Okla., are 10 a.m., Friday April 15, 2016, at Green Country Funeral Home. Officiating will be Dan Melhaus. Pallbearers are Ronnie Carter, Jim Morris, Steve Allen Carter Jr., John Lathrop, Derek Don Carter, and Patrick Gwin. Interment will follow in the Pettit Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at tahlequahfuneral.net.
Billy Carter Sr. was born in Park Hill, Okla., on April 13,1935, to John Enoch (Nuck) Carter and Lillie B. (Fakes) Carter. He passed away at the same place he was born.
Bill married Mayann Terrill on Oct. 17, 1953, at Tahlequah City Hall which is now the Cherokee Capital.
Bill retired from Northeastern State University following 15 years of service and was over the carpenter shop at the physical plant. He was a master carpenter and built many of the playhouses for Court Appointed Special Advocates fundraisers.
Bill also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Bill was preceded in death by two brothers, Ted Eugene Carter and Carl James Carter.
Bill is survived by his wife, Maryanne Carter of the home; sons, Steve Allen Carter and wife Charlotte of Osage Beach, Mo., Billy Don Carter Jr. of Harrisonville, Mo., and Douglas Lee Carter and wife Sandy of Peculiar, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Ann Gwin; and brother, Dero Carter; as well as many close friends and colleagues.
